Roxbury Arts Group

good clan crystalThe Roxbury Arts Group, operating as the Roxbury Arts Center, is a not-for-profit multi-arts center serving Delaware County and its surrounding communities for nearly thirty years. The Arts Center operates from two historically significant turn-of-the-century commercial buildings that continue in their rich legacies as public spaces.

The Arts Center provides affordable year-round opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy all genres of professional performing arts including theater, world music, traditional and contemporary music and dance, comedy and performance art. Fiddlers! an annual celebration of traditional music, is held every Columbus Day weekend and draws enthusiasts from throughout the region.

Visual Artists of the region display their work in two gallery spaces; The Walt Meade Gallery, a 1911 former YMCA building on Vega Mountain Road and just around the corner at the 1905 Old Bank Gallery on Main Street. Helping to support both galleries is “Whet Paint”, a day-long paint-a-thon featuring some of the area’s best artists who produce a gallery full of beautiful, original works, each at the unbelievable price of $100! Our annual photography contest and show is entered by scores of amateurs and pros alike who submit hundreds of images, all of which are displayed for several autumn weeks.

heartsThroughout the year workshops and classes are held for both children and adults ranging from Tap dance to Pilates and from Fiber Art to Watercolor Painting.

The Arts Center also provides funding opportunities to other Delaware County communities and artists through the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program. Arts-in-Education is a major program at The Arts Center where six area public schools are provided with weekly visiting artists during their after-school programs. Every August the Arts Center holds a week-long day camp for youth 8-14 that focuses on our natural environment and its interpretation through the arts.

Other not-for-profit and civic organizations also make use of The Arts Center’s facilities by sponsoring dinners, auctions, workshops, lectures and meetings. During the rare empty times, the Arts Center is made available for private parties and weddings.

There are over 150 different events, programs and workshops held annually at the Arts Center providing an opportunity for everyone living in or visiting the area to enjoy the arts, in the beautiful hamlet of Roxbury, NY.
