The Roxbury Nine vintage base ball team emerged victorious
after a doubleheader of an afternoon of 1860s ball versus the Bristol Blues
of Rhode Island.
There was a whole lotta hitting going on, with the final scores 17-16 Roxbury in the first game and 16-12 Roxbury in the second game. The 19th-century style base ball was one of the main attractions of “Railride to Yesteryear,” with rail travellers coming to experience all the agreeable pursuits of 1898 Roxbury on Saturday.
On Saturday, June 9 at noon in Kirkside Park, you can catch the Nine in action against mere young'uns -- the Roxbury Central School varsity baseball team. This "Old School vs. New School" dustup is part of a special Community Day organized by the RCS Class of 2007 and it's all for a good cause: to support future plantings in Kirkside Park. Be there, and meet some really "hip" swingers.
