To Remember and To Honor

The Memorial Day festivities in Roxbury included parades in the hamlets of Grand Gorge and Roxbury. Marching along were the Roxbury, Grand Gorge, Conesville and Prattsville fire departments and emergency service squads, scouts galore, the Roxbury Central School marching band, the Roxbury Nine vintage base ball team aboard a 19th century era horse drawn hotel coach, big wheel tractors, gleaming vintage automobiles and even a prancing billy goat. Irv Thompson, the "senior" veteran of our local Ralph Ives American Legion post, laid the wreath of honor on the Veterans' Memorial and the ceremonies included "taps," a gun salute, an invocation and a reading of "Flanders Field."
