With all the diversity in Roxbury dining that’s sprouted up this year, “restaurant hopping” could become the newest fad
The proprietors of the Public Lounge, East Branch and the Oasis are one step ahead of you there: they’ve used their proximity and eclectic offerings to create a “Moveable Feast” dinner event. This meal “a pied” proved so popular on December 30, they’re throwing another one on Saturday, Feb. 10; perfect timing to treat your Valentine and enjoy a wonderful meal and those brilliant winter stars at the same time.
Here’s how it works: diners will meet in the Corner Store, at Oasis Coffee and Tea at 5:30 p.m., just in time for the classic cocktail hour. To whet your appetite, Janet and Scott will be serving shrimp cocktail or a cheese platter with your choice of beer or wine.
The main course comes next at the Public Lounge, just down Bridge Street, less than a minute’s walk away. You’ll probably see the romantic horse drawn Roxbury surrey ambling up Main Street on a “Valentines Run” with a couple of lovebirds aboard on your way.
At the Public, the ambience is all about comfortable chic: nifty wide screen music videos will entertain you in this loungy well-cushioned hideaway. Host Andrew will be serving a hearty and authentic Argentinian asado barbecue. “The Argentineans share with the natives of the Catskills a thing for cows and no one does beef like Argentina,” says Andrew. You’ll feast on steak and sausage done in a savory grilled style, fresh green salad, bread, and a traditional Argentinian potato salad, “insalada rusa.” A glass of wine or beverage is included. Your dinner will be served at a leisurely pace from 6:30 p.m. until 8.
At 8 p.m. you’ll have a chance to stretch
your legs and take a refreshing constitutional down Main Street, strolling
to the East Branch to put the capper on your evening with a choice of delectable
desserts, espresso drinks, coffee, or tea. Host Stan will end your evening
with the tops in service, too.
Price is only $35 per person plus tax for this moving taster’s menu
of three of Roxbury’s most entertaining eateries.
