Enderlin Gallery will be featuring David Ryan’s Landscape “studies in atmospheric minimalism” through the month of August. A resident of East Meredith, David Ryan graduated from NYC’s School of Visual Arts with a BA. In 1997 Ryan began painting on the east end of Long Island; engaged by pre-dawn light, nocturnal light, fog and other atmospheric conditions. In 1998 he moved to upstate New York, where he has been inspired by the agricultural landscape to continue his exploration of the nuances of light and atmosphere.
David Ryan states that he finds “the study of landscape to be an excellent teacher. It is endlessly changing, demanding and slow to give up secrets. I am less provoked by land forms, but rather compelled by the light and conditions that these forms exist in. I use light and atmosphere to explore the relationship between beginning and ending, forming and fading, existing and passing into non-existence.”
