Enjoy the peak of autumn's beauty aboard a horse-drawn coach

Or take in a colorful view of Roxbury in a historic hamlet walking tour

What's the fun in watching brilliant foliage fly by at 60 miles per hour? No wonder they call it "leaf peeping"! On Saturday, Oct. 13, you and your friends can climb aboard a 12-seater horse coach and enjoy the very peak of fall foliage season along the Catskill Scenic Trail — relaxed and up close in a way you never could enjoy in a speeding car.

Fall ColorsFrom the Kroms' Mountain Breeze Mini Horse Farm on Route 23 just west of the hamlet of Grand Gorge, you'll enter our magnificent autumn landscape. Enjoy doughnuts and cider courtesy of the Grand Gorge Community Action Group as you enter a landscape that was part of daily life 100 years ago: the Catskill Scenic Trail is built on the old railbed of the Ulster & Delaware Railroad, which in turn was built on the ancient trails used by natives and settlers alike. Now, the trail is canopied in a gorgeous array of Catskills' hardwoods and evergreens and they are putting on a glorious seasonal show. Their engagement is almost over, however: so be sure to reserve your seat today by calling 607 326-3722. Rides are $10 per person and will amble at two horsepower between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The ride lasts approximately half an hour. The crisp mountain air, birdsong and any miscellaneous wildlife sightings are compliments of the Catskills.

Fall ColorsThere's also no more beautiful or refreshing moment in time to enjoy a brisk walking tour of Roxbury's historic Main Street (listed on the State and National Registers). With a complimentary walking tour brochure in hand, and a knowledgeable guide to tell tales of this picturesque village, you'll be steeped in historical riches and fresh air too. This little hamlet gave birth to America's most beloved naturalist and its most famous robber baron — see if you can figure out the magical alchemy that makes this quiet hamlet such a historical hot spot. Tours depart from the Roxbury Motel on Bridge Street onSaturday Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. Come in comfortable walking shoes. The hamlet tour is offered for a free will donation.

Don't miss these one-of-a-kind timely treats: call 607 326-3722 to reserve today.
