It
was a 27-rocket salute on Saturday, June 23rd, as the Roxbury Class of 2007
said goodbye to high school and stepped onto the next stage of their lives.
Even for this tight-knit community, the Class of 07 was a real family affair,
with both Principal Thomas O'Brien and Superintendent Dr. Craig Carr watching
one of their own children graduate (Kelsey and Russell).
Salutatorian Tara Schor implored her classmates "to find their own path" and find the passion within themselves to pursue their futures wholeheartedly.
Valedictorian
Allyce Bolger said that finding the words to say to her peers was the hardest
thing she'd ever had to write, until she took inspiration from a card her
uncle sent to her. In
it were these words of Maya Angelou: "Don't make
money your goal.
Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and do them so
well that people can't take their eyes off you." Success, Allyce reminded
us all, is "finding a way to live the life you love," and once
you discover the work that makes you happy, she urged them all to "Just
go for it."
The "Three Sopranos" (Seniors Kelsey O'Brien, Kelly Williams and Tara Schor) regaled the audience with Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance," the perfect accompaniment to the mood of the day: "I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance / Never settle for the path of least resistance / Living might mean taking chances / But they're worth taking. . . "
Seana Haskin announced that, in addition to providing a picnic table for the school lawn, the Class of 07 would donate the remainder of its funds to a pool for students who needed scholarship funds.
