RCS seventh graders and Pink Elephant preschoolers had fun remembering water under the bridge (and other places!) when they got together to reminisce about their stream hike in the fall and some of the lessons they learned about water, aquatic ecosystems in the Catskills and how important water management is, especially in our watershed, which supplies clean drinking water to millions and millions of thirsty New Yorkers downstate.
With the help of PEP teacher Sam Rose, students "rained on" a realistic watershed model (complete with houses, wells, storm drains, sewage plant, farms, roads and reservoir) to watch how water travels throughout the landscape and what can happen to it along the way. PEP students and RCS seventh graders will continue their "buddy studies" this winter and spring, with field trips to Kirkside Park and Lake Wawaka and culminating in a Science Fair for students, parents, teachers and other macro-organisms on May 24. The PEP-RCS collaborative watershed study program is funded by a Catskill Watershed Corporation education grant.
