Busy Workshop Schedule at RAG

The Roxbury Arts Group announces a busy schedule of classes and workshops during the months of March and April. There will be something for everyone – exercise, creativity, crafts, dance and, above all, fun. Most of the classes have a limit to the number of participants who can enroll, so call early to ensure a place. (607) 326-7908.

For those who have hibernated too deeply during the frigid winter months, popular instructor Joanne Callahan will be offering “Pilates Mat for All.” Classes will take place on Tuesdays, 6:30 -7:30 on March 13, 20, 27 and April 3, 10 and 17. The class will be an eclectic mix of Pilates, stretch and dance. Callahan says an athlete can benefit as well as a basic beginner or an elderly person because everybody works at their own level.

The first class on March 13 will be free – a free-will donation to RAG is appreciated- and the remaining 5 classes will be $60.

Responding to many requests, RAG is offering a Life Drawing class. Taught by Bovina artist Luke Dougherty, the class will meet Wednesdays, March 21, 28, April 4 and 11 from 6-8. Participants will learn the basics of drawing from a live model. Advanced level students are welcome as well. $40 for 4 classes includes model’s fee.

We all have drawers full of odd objects, old keys, single earrings, broken necklaces, etc. Jeweler Barbara Klar will lead an intensive workshop in which participants will craft wearable jewelry from these disparate odds and ends. Jewelry From Found Objects will meet on two Saturdays, April 28th and May 5th from 12-4. $65 plus $10 materials fee.

Participants will bring their own found objects, and Klar will provide the findings and the expertise she has garnered in nearly 30 years’ of creating unique and unusual collector’s pieces.

Artist Herrat Sommerhoff has a passion (and a worldwide reputation) for crafting beautiful collages and sculptures from recycled materials. On four Saturdays, March 24, 31 and April 2, from 1-3 pm, Sommerhoff will lead a workshop “Sculpture Collage with Found Objects” in which participants will create a large and decorative piece of sculpture. The techniques learned in the workshop can be transferred to work with other materials. $45 includes materials.

And for those who want more artistry in their workouts, Patti Dell returns with “Tap Dance for Advanced Beginners.” Anyone with some basic tap training is invited to participate. Classes on Saturdays, March 24 – May 6 11 am – 12 noon. $10 per class. Interested beginners, call RAG. If there is enough response, Dell will teach a beginners tap class from 12-1.

Reminder: Most of the classes have a limit to the number of participants who can enroll, so call early to ensure a place. (607) 326-7908.
