Walton photographer Carien Schippers, winner of the Roxbury Arts Group’s Community Photo Show, will exhibit a group of photos, “ An American Horse Drive,” at RAG’s Old Bank Gallery from May 26 – July 9. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, May 26 from 4-6 pm.
Carien Schippers of ImagEquine.com started photographing horses as a teenager in the 1970’s and has spent her adult life observing, studying and documenting the horse with the help of a camera. For many years as an event photographer in the Northeast she covered many of the top Arabian, Morgan, Carriage Driving, Competitive Trail Rides and Dressage shows in the region.
While she still officiates at a limited number of shows and events every year she has changed the focus of her work to concentrate on stock, editorial, fine art, private commission and commercial work. She spends a portion of her time traveling to shoot the wild horses and ponies of the UK, Virginia and the American West. Her award winning work has been widely published in books, magazines, calendars and for catalog covers. The body of work in the current exhibit captures the drama and excitement of a remnant of the Old West that most people think is a thing of the past.
Gallery hours are Monday – Friday 10 am to 2 pm; Saturdays from 1-4 pm, and Sundays, 10 am – 2 pm and by appointment . (607) 326-7908. Stone carvings and sculptures by Ken Hiratsuka continue until June 11 at the Walt Meade Gallery.
