The Roxbury Arts Group Includes the Community in Planning Process

The Roxbury Arts Group intends to include as many points of view as possible in their planning for future programming and development. To that end, RAG has announced that over the next month it will use various information gathering methods to better understand the expectations and needs of community members and leaders.

Susan Kenny, Executive Director of The Roxbury Arts Group, says that this community outreach is being done in preparation for a retreat planned for The RAG Board of Directors in January. The retreat will focus on organizational goals for the next three to five years and the resources that will be needed to accomplish those goals. Answering questions about why community members are included in this process, Ms. Kenny commented that, “feedback from the communities we serve is essential if we are going to accurately measure our past successes and take a hard look at where we are going in the future and how we will get there.”

Online and printed surveys, focus groups, and individual meetings are a few of the techniques Ms. Kenny and board members will use to accumulate as much information as possible prior to the board retreat. To make it easy to help, RAG plans to give people ample opportunities to participate and keep the process as brief as possible.

The Roxbury Arts Group was originally founded in 1979 as an outgrowth of the country’s bicentennial celebration. Since then, the group has grown into one of the most comprehensive cultural organizations in the area.
