Nearly all the walls of the Roxbury Arts Group will be covered with photographs
on December 1, when over 100 entries in the annual Community Photo show fill
the Walt Meade Gallery on Vega Mountain Road, and photographer Marguerite
Rocholl opens an exhibit of her work, “Fences and Faces” in the
Old Bank Gallery on Main St. Receptions for both events will be held on December
1 from 3-5 pm.
MARGUERITE
ROCHOLL resides part time in Grand Gorge. Her abiding love of the Catskill
Mountains is reflected in her work. Photography comes naturally to Marguerite.
Her father, Ed Clarity was an award-winning photographer for a New York newspaper.
His encouragement and tutelage encouraged Marguerite to submit her photos
to H. Armstrong Roberts, a stock photo agency. From that point, Marguerite's
career has expanded and the demand for her photographs is brisk. They have
been used in commercial catalogs, brochures, text books and as calendar art.
Marguerite now travels extensively worldwide with her husband Ted and although
her photographs reflect a broad spectrum of exotic scenes, her preference
remains the beautiful vistas of the Catskill Mountains. The human condition
is also one of her favorite themes, and this exhibit includes many fine examples
of human beings going about their homely, daily lives.
RAG’s annual photography competition has become a popular draw for
both photographers and lovers of fine photography. Open to amateurs and professional
photographers alike, the photos on display represent a number of categories
including, The Catskills, Portrait, Wildlife, Artistic, and Travel.
First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded in each category by
a team of judges, all of whom are professional photographers. A Best of Show
award will go to the photograph, selected from the first prize winners in
each category, judged to be the single best piece in the competition.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10am-4pm; Sundays and Mondays by appointment. 607 326-7908.
