Artist Jane Carr will be in the Old Bank Gallery of The Roxbury Arts Group on Saturday, January 20 from 1-4 pm to demonstrate the technique of painting in egg tempera.
Egg tempera, is a classical medium that pre-dates oil paint and was commonly used centuries ago. Pure, ground pigment is mixed with egg yolk, forming transparent colors that are applied in cross-hatched layers over a white (gesso) background. Light passes through the paint and is reflected back from the ground, resulting in a clarity and brilliance particular to this medium.
An exhibit of Carr's work in egg tempera, "Delaware County Pastoral" is on exhibit until Feb. 28th in the Old Bank Gallery on Main St., Roxbury.
