“Art of the Tango,” an exhibition of paintings by Karen
Kucharski, will be on view at The Walt Meade Gallery of The Roxbury Arts
Group from October 13 through November 12 . A reception for
the artist will take place on Saturday, October 21st from 4-6 pm.
The body of work in the exhibit expresses the passion and mystery of this most sensuous dance form. In charcoal, acrylic and monotype, Kucharski brings to life dancers lost in the passion of the dance, moving in shadow and spotlight, executing the highly synchronized movements of the milonga, the vals, each step sensitive, evocative and moving.
Karen Kucharski graduated from Binghamton Univerisity with a B.A. in studio art and received her M.F.A. in Printmaking, Experimental Studies at Syracuse University. She taught lithography at Dartmouth College in 2005/ She has also taught at Cornell University in four of its college divisions, including the Art Department, the Textiles and Apparel Department, and the Physiology and Biology Departments for which she designed an anatomy course based on drawing. Her support of Native American cultures led her to teach in Cornell’s American Indian Program with seminars and museum tours on indigenous art. She now makes her home in Oneonta, NY.
Ms Kucharski’s awards include a Special Opportunities Stipend from the New York Foundation for the Arts, a Fellowship from the Community Arts Partnership, Ithaca, NY, and a grand from Change, Inc., a Visiting Scholar position at the printmaking studio of UNC-Chapel Hill.
