Called an “extraordinarily talented writer with a real talent for poetic imagery” (Great American Song Contest), Krueger’s songs are likened to an impressionistic landscape painting. It could, in fact, be said that the landscapes in his music are the very landscapes of his soul - the falling of a blackberry becomes his own death, the flight of swallows a ransom to secure his salvation.
Born in 1970 to two teachers, James grew up in the rural hills of northern New Jersey. There, amidst the disappearing landscapes he loved and the constant pressure to participate in the very society that was destroying them, he began writing and performing his own music at the age of fifteen. After four psychiatric hospitalizations as a teenager, eighteen years later his love of music, songwriting and the land has proved a worthy lifeboat. Krueger’s performances are marked by his beautiful songs, entertaining stories, agile guitar playing and balmy voice.
James has performed for the North American Bluebird Society, the Sierra Club, The Sloop Clearwater’s Environmental Center, The New York Maple Growers’ Association, National Artists for Mental Health, The Thendara Mountain Club, The Hunter Mountain Foundation, and at many other performing arts centers, clubs and coffeehouses in the northeast. He is a two-time honor award winner in the Great American Song Contest. For more information please visit www.jameskrueger.com.
