Bring your favorite lapblanket (or designated cuddlebunny) and set your
holiday spirits alight with some Christmas cheer, Roxbury style, Saturday,
Dec. 2. Join your friends and neighbors as we light the Roxbury Christmas
Tree in the village square. The Roxbury Brass will warm the night with the
clarion beauty of "O, Tannenbaum" and other festive favorites — then
hop aboard as Santa and his elves (and his steeds!) take you caroling in
his Holiday Coach along Main Street, accompanied by the magical sounds of
antique sleigh bells and the cheerful clip-clop of horses' hooves.
Launch your holiday mood with our whole community and catch that infectious Christmas spirit from the kids, oohing and aahing at the giant tree and its lights. Tug on Santa's beard if you dare, or help Santa's Elves spread merriment (and maybe some mischief!) The Official Roxbury Christmas Tree will start twinkling at 5 p.m. sharp. Every half hour starting at 5 p.m., the Holiday Caroling Coach will pick up a chorus-load from the town square, so you can serenade Main Street as Santa steers. Cub scouts will ply you with hot cocoa and cookies to keep your spirits light and Santa's elves will have goodies for everyone on Santa's list.
The final Caroling Coach steps off around 6:30 p.m., and at 7 o'clock, your
vocal chords will be all warmed up and in fine fettle for Roxbury's
first ever Song Swap at Oasis. Hey, don't be shy! You're among friends. We
promise not to laugh. Too hard. And everyone will be sharing, so you'll have
plenty of entertainment, good cheer, fine spirits to enjoy and some comfort
food too!
Don't let the holidays turn into a time of stress for you and yours — remember to join in the simple, sometimes silly traditions that made the holidays a time of family, joy, and renewal for mountain folks just a few generations ago.
