CROP Bench Dedication

It was a sunny fall day -- a perfect day for sitting and watching the Halloween Parade go by! And the perfect day to dedicate the benches and table set graciously donated to Main Street's CROP garden by Joseph and Lorraine Monteleone, in memory of their son, Matthew, who died five years ago. Sitting and socializing with everyone strolling by was one of Matthew's favorite pastimes. These benches, crafted of Catskills blue stone, will be here for generations of folks to sit and enjoy, chatting with their friends, watching Main Street parades, or just taking in that comfortable feel of home.

Among those who came out to thank the Monteleones were Roxbury Supervisor Tom Hynes, RCS Superintendent Dr. Craig Carr, ONC-BOCES CROP Program Manager Kris Kaschak, CROP and PTSA parent Jen Schuman, school grantwriter Peg Ellsworth, student CROP participants and peer tutors, RCS board members, and lots of friends like Barbara and Dave Scudder. The Monteleones expressed gratitude for the opportunity to make a lasting — and very functional —memorial to their son. After the ribbon cutting, a reception hosted by the RCS PTSA was held in the Roxbury Library. And the benches were put to use immediately, as parents, grandparents and other Roxbury folks gathered to watch the annual Halloween Parade!
