The Roxbury Arts Group Board of Directors is pleased
to announce the appointment of Susan Kenny as new Executive Director. Kenny,
who joins RAG this month with a diverse background in nonprofit organization
management, most recently served as grants and contracts administrator for
the Watershed Agricultural Council. With a background in social work, she
worked for many years for regional Job Corps centers in a variety of capacities,
including director of the Oneonta Job Corps Center.
Along with husband, Jim, an artist and photographer, and son, David, she owned and operated Studio 2029, a gallery in Oneonta, where they maintain a digital arts business in their Main Street building. Kenny’s desire to be more involved in the arts led her to serve on the board of directors of the Upper Catskills Community Council for the Arts. In addition to running a gallery, she has, over recent years, gained first-hand knowledge of the arts, trying her hand in drawing, painting, photography, and poetry. “It may sound corny,” she says, “but there is tremendous personal growth in these endeavors. Exploring this side of myself has allowed me to truly understand why the arts need to be a greater part of our work and play. These experiences have added more joy to my everyday life.”
Kenny finds the challenges of her new position energizing, seeing it as “another adventure.” Charmed by the arts group’s location and inspired by its contributions to the area, she says: “I look forward to being a part of this wonderful community and being involved with visual arts, theatre, dance and music. I see this as the celebration of life,” adding that “I like the idea of being one of the people who is involved with providing these things within a community.” She regards the Roxbury Arts Group as “a well established organization with a solid staff and good programming.” Her goals include “maintaining all that is great within the organization and seeking more support for new efforts that will serve the children and adults within the community and add value to their lives.”
