CROP Students Fund Raise for New Shed and Tools

Crop shed needs replacingAn October 31 fire destroyed the CROP garden shed behind Roxbury Central School, but fortunately the garden was unharmed and the fourth graders are raising money to help replace the equipment lost.

Barbara Johnson, who began and runs the CROP garden for the after school program, was devastated when she saw the damage the next day. “The children were pretty upset when they saw it,” said Johnson, “but thanks to some last minute ingenuity, they were able to plant their garlic as planned. We had no tools left, but Carl Pickhardt fashioned some handmade wooden digging tools, probably much like the first planting implements humans ever used,” said Johnson. The CROP kids were able to plant garlic and harvest baby carrots.

Roxbury’s fourth-graders are running a fund-raiser to help replace the garden implements lost in time for spring planting and early garden work.

If you would like to contribute to the RCS Fourth-Grade CROP fund-raiser, please stop by the school or call RCS at 607 326-4151 to find out how you can contribute.
